Community & Impact

Corporate Social Responsibility

"We believe that a truly successful construction company must build more than buildings — it must build communities, opportunities, and futures."
Isaias Kabali — Managing Director, East Prowess Limited

Four Pillars of CSR

Our corporate social responsibility framework is built on four interconnected pillars that guide how we operate, invest, and engage with the communities around us.

Community Investment

We invest directly in the communities where we work — from employment and local procurement to donating materials, labour, and expertise for community infrastructure projects that outlast our contracts.

Skills & Education

Tanzania's construction sector needs the next generation of engineers, surveyors, and tradespeople. We actively develop talent through apprenticeships, graduate programmes, and university sponsorships to build the human capital the industry needs.

Environmental Stewardship

Construction has an environmental footprint. We actively work to minimise ours through waste reduction, responsible sourcing, site rehabilitation, and embedding sustainability principles into every project from inception to handover.

Ethical Business

Integrity is not a policy statement — it is how we operate. Anti-corruption, fair procurement, equal pay, and transparent governance are the standards we hold ourselves to and expect from our partners and supply chain.

Community Impact

Concrete outcomes from our community investment — because good intentions only count when they translate to real change.

80%+

Local Employment

More than 80% of East Prowess Limited's workforce is sourced from Tanzanian communities, with active preference given to residents in the areas where our projects are located. We provide structured on-the-job training and skills development for young Tanzanians entering the construction trade — creating a pipeline of capable local professionals who remain in their communities long after our contracts conclude. Skills in carpentry, masonry, steel fixing, plant operation, and site supervision are transferred through mentored apprenticeships that give tangible economic outcomes to individuals and their families.

Pro Bono

Community Infrastructure

East Prowess Limited volunteers materials, equipment, and technical expertise for community building works in areas where our projects are active. This includes repairs to classrooms, health clinic extensions, community centre renovations, and small infrastructure improvements such as access paths and water points. These contributions are planned as part of each major project's community engagement programme, ensuring that host communities see tangible benefits from East Prowess Limited's presence beyond the contracted scope of works.

Active

Women in Construction

The construction industry in Tanzania — as in much of the world — has historically been male-dominated. East Prowess Limited is committed to changing that. We actively recruit female engineers, surveyors, site managers, and tradespeople, and provide mentorship and career development support to ensure they thrive. Our Women in Construction mentorship programme, launched in 2025, pairs female graduates and trainees with senior professionals who guide their technical development and career progression. We track our gender diversity metrics and publish targets to ensure accountability.

Apprenticeship & Graduate Programme

Tanzania produces thousands of engineering and construction graduates each year — many of whom struggle to find structured employment that develops their skills. East Prowess Limited's graduate and apprenticeship programme provides a direct bridge between academic qualification and professional competence.

Each year we take on 20+ fresh graduates and trade apprentices into a structured programme that rotates them through different project types, disciplines, and site operations. They work alongside experienced engineers, quantity surveyors, and site managers who act as mentors — providing regular reviews, setting learning objectives, and supporting ERB professional registration applications where eligible.

Apprentices who demonstrate the right attitude and technical capability are offered permanent positions on completion of the programme. This creates a talent pipeline that benefits both the individual and the company — and contributes to Tanzania's overall construction sector capacity.

Responsible Operations

Every Site. Every Decision. Built on Responsibility.

Environmental Responsibility

Every construction project has an environmental impact. Our role is to manage, minimise, and mitigate that impact responsibly.

Waste Reduction & Management

Construction and demolition waste is sorted on-site into recyclable, reusable, and disposal streams. We prioritise recycling of concrete rubble, steel, timber, and packaging materials. Site waste management plans are produced for all major projects, with targets set and performance tracked.

Dust Suppression

Active dust suppression programmes on all earthworks and road construction sites — deploying our water bowsers to wet haul roads, stockpile areas, and active cutting and filling operations. Dust management plans are included in environmental management submissions and complied with throughout project execution.

Site Rehabilitation

All disturbed areas beyond the construction footprint are rehabilitated to their natural or agreed end-state on project completion. This includes topsoil reinstatement, replanting of cleared vegetation, recontouring of earthwork areas, and restoration of watercourses disturbed during construction activities.

Sustainable Materials

Where technically and commercially viable, we specify and procure sustainable construction materials — locally sourced aggregates, certified timber, low-carbon concrete mixes, and recycled materials. Sustainable sourcing reduces transport emissions and supports the local economy simultaneously.

Ethical Business Practices

Our commitment to ethical conduct is embedded in our policies, our procurement processes, and our day-to-day decision-making.

Anti-Corruption Policy

East Prowess Limited has a zero-tolerance policy on bribery and corruption. All staff receive anti-corruption training and are required to declare and avoid conflicts of interest. We do not participate in any form of bid rigging, kickback, or fraudulent procurement practice.

Fair Pay & Labour Rights

All employees receive at minimum the applicable Tanzanian minimum wage, with most earning above-market compensation reflecting their skills and experience. We comply fully with Tanzania's labour laws on working hours, leave entitlements, social security (NSSF), and health insurance contributions.

Equal Opportunity Employment

Recruitment, promotion, and remuneration decisions at East Prowess Limited are made entirely on merit. We do not discriminate on grounds of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, or disability. Our diversity and inclusion commitments are reviewed annually by the HR Director and reported to the Board.

Transparent Procurement

Subcontractor and supplier selection is conducted through a documented, competitive process. We maintain a vendor register with pre-qualification requirements and conduct procurement in accordance with the applicable contract conditions. Financial transactions are recorded transparently and available for client audit where required by contract.

Community Projects

A selection of our community investment initiatives since 2022 — tangible evidence that our CSR commitments translate into real action.

2022

Primary School Construction — Dodoma Region

East Prowess Limited donated construction materials and skilled labour to complete two additional classrooms at a government primary school in Dodoma Region that had been under construction for over three years due to funding shortfalls. The completed classrooms now serve approximately 120 students who were previously learning in overcrowded conditions. Materials donated included cement, steel, roofing sheets, windows, and doors, with our site team providing construction supervision at no cost to the school.

2023

Borehole & Water Supply — Rural Community

Following the completion of a major road project in a rural district, East Prowess Limited funded the drilling and installation of a community borehole providing clean water access to approximately 350 people in a village that had previously relied on an unprotected surface water source 3 kilometres away. The borehole was equipped with a hand pump and a protective concrete apron, and community members were trained in basic maintenance. This project directly addressed the water access gap created by the disruption to existing water paths during road construction.

2024

Engineering Student Sponsorships — UDSM

East Prowess Limited sponsored 10 engineering students at the University of Dar es Salaam, covering tuition fees, study materials, and a monthly living allowance for the academic year. Sponsored students were selected on the basis of academic performance and financial need, with preference given to female students and those from rural backgrounds underrepresented in the engineering profession. Five of the sponsored students have subsequently joined East Prowess Limited's graduate programme on completion of their studies.

2025

Women in Construction Mentorship Programme Launch

East Prowess Limited launched its formal Women in Construction mentorship programme, pairing 15 female graduate engineers and quantity surveyors with senior professional mentors from within the company. The programme provides monthly one-to-one mentoring sessions, access to professional development workshops, support for ERB and AQRB registration applications, and a peer support network. The programme has already contributed to a 20% increase in female professional staff at East Prowess Limited since its launch.

Contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

East Prowess Limited's CSR activities directly support Tanzania's commitments under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda.

SDG 4

Quality Education

Our university sponsorships, apprenticeship programme, and on-the-job training directly increase access to quality technical education and skills development for Tanzanian youth — particularly those from underserved communities who would otherwise lack access to professional development pathways.

SDG 8

Decent Work & Growth

By sourcing 80%+ of our workforce locally, paying above-minimum wages, providing NSSF contributions, and offering career development, we create decent, sustainable employment that contributes to Tanzania's economic growth and reduces unemployment among young Tanzanians.

SDG 10

Reduced Inequalities

Our Women in Construction programme, equal opportunity employment policies, rural community investment, and preference for employing workers from project host communities actively work to reduce social and economic inequalities that are barriers to inclusive growth in Tanzania's construction and infrastructure sector.

SDG 11

Sustainable Cities

The buildings, roads, and infrastructure we construct are the physical fabric of Tanzania's cities and towns. By building to high quality standards, incorporating sustainable design principles, and rehabilitating deteriorating structures, we contribute directly to the development of safer, more resilient, and more inclusive urban environments.
